Tomorrow, When The War Began: Chapter 12

1. “They say teenagers can sleep all day”. Is this true? Do you agree? Does Ellie still see herself as a typical teenager?
- Well, I think some of them sleep all day. But I don't really agree with this fact because teenagers now days usually stay up. I also don't think Ellie still sees herself as a typical teenager anymore because of the things she has done and what she been through.

2. Ellie’s dream at the beginning of the chapter is rather nonsensical, as dreams are wont to be. Is there any meaning to it? Try and explain what Ellie’s subconscious could be thinking about: why is her dad cooking for the whole town? Why did Father Cronin ignore Ellie’s greeting? Why was Corrie 8 years old again? Why were they sailing off on a  boat? Why was Lee undressing?
- I think there's a hidden message behind Ellie's dream, giving her a warning. Her dad is cooking for the whole town because they are probably celebrating something. Father Cronin ignored Ellie because he's not introduced to the story yet. Corrie was 8 years old again because they probably had a good time when they were kids. They were maybe salling off on a boat because they had to move in another place. Lee was probably undressing because Ellie was thinking about him too much.

3. Why is it so terrible that Chris falls asleep while on sentry duty? How does Ellie react? Why do you think she reacts this way? How does she feel about her reaction later?
- It's terrible because his job was to guard the entry while everyone was sleeping. But instead, he fell asleep. Ellie reacted by shouting and kicking Chris because she was really furious. She reacted this way because if anyone had caught or seen them, they'll be in danger. In the end, she realised how she reacted and she felt bad about it.

4. Back in Hell, Ellie’s dreams are far more ominous. Explain why Ellie is dreaming of her fears.

- I think she's dreaming about her fears because she's still shocked about what had been happening since the crisis situation started.

Culture - Taha Wairua

At home, I've been working on Taha Wairua - Spiritual Well-being. The last task that I had to do was to pick two or three of the Cultural Experiences and to fill in the boxes with the answers that I have researched.

Cultural
experiences
How is this celebrated?
Who is it
celebrated with?
Why is this
important to
celebrate?
Day Of The
Dead
This is celebrated by
decorating their altars with
flowers, candles, and food.
It is also celebrated by having
parades and parties. Some
choose to dress up as a
skeleton.
With your family.
To celebrate the
remembrance
of their deceased friends
and family members.
Christmas
Many people decorate their
house, visit family and
friends, and exchange
gifts.
This is celebrated
with your family
and friends.
To remember
the birth of Jesus
Christ.

Tomorrow, When The War Began: Chapter 11

1. How does Ellie feel as she is waiting in the truck at the Council Depot? Where do her emotions come from?
- She felt cold, shivery, and excitement but the greatest of these was fear. Her fear came from love, for her friends because she didn't want to let them down.

2. Why are the girls smiling when in danger? Is this a logical response?
- They are probably coping with the situation sarcastically or because of adrenaline.

3. What does wearing a helmet and buckling up mean to the girls?
- It means they are making sure they're safe if anything happens.

4. What does Chris’s story say about the town?
- The town wasn't the same as before, many things changed such as people disappearing, electricity being cut and incidents on the road. There was also a lot of soldiers lingering around the streets and a lot of houses were a mess.

5. What impact does the BMW have on the story? Does Chris seem lonely? Explain your answer?
- The BMW helped them escape but in the end, they had to get rid off it so the soldiers can't find a connection between them and Chris's family. If they do, they might burn his house done and maybe something bad might happened for Chris's parents. So instead, they pushed it in the dam which is how they found Chris. Yes, Chris seems lonely because he had been by himself since the war started and he hasn't seen his parents yet.

6. What is Homer’s explanation for the need to swap cars at Chris Lang’s place? What does this show about the way he is thinking?
- His explanation is to switch cars again because he has also been followed by the soldiers. Instead of using the BMW(the car he used), he'll use a different car (which is Chris's parent's car)to go to Ellie's house. Unfortunately, if the soldiers find the shot up BMW that they've been searching for, then some nasty things could happen to Ellie’s parents. (Whatever car he uses, he'll leave it in Ellie's house and switch it with the Landrover to go to hell) This shows that Homer is thinking intelligently and strategically.

7. What are your thoughts on the story so far...
- I barely read books but I've really enjoyed it so far, and I can't wait what's going to happen next.

The Narrative Arc

In English, I made my own Narrative arc based on the movie Frozen.

Tomorrow, When The War Began: Chapter 10

1. Why does Homer insist on going on with the plan after Corrie’s house blows up? How does he convince Corrie that this is a good idea?
- Homer should convince Corrie that it was a good idea because the soldiers think he and his friends died from the explosion.

2. Describe the strategy Homer and Ellie use to ensure their safety when riding their bikes into town. What does this show about how they are starting to think?
- Homer was riding two hundred meters behind Ellie. She'd stop every corner of intersections then signal back to him. This shows that they are started to be aware of what is happening.

3. Why do you think Mr Clement is reluctant to help Lee and Robyn? How would you react in his position?
- Mr Clement is reluctant because he doesn't trust anyone and he doesn't wanna get caught by the soldiers. If I was in his position, I would more likely to join them because it's better to be in a group instead of being alone knowing its dangerous.

4. How has Homer changed in Ellie’s eyes since the invasion?
- He became more mature and braver.

5. What are the 2 different types of soldiers and how do they each treat the inhabitants of Wirrawee?
- One type of soldiers was professionals that treated people better. The other type was there to make up the number, they were poorly trained and treated people badly.

6. Why do you think Robyn had the strength to carry Lee?
- Based on Ellie's reaction, I think she had the strength to carry Lee because she knows it was important on that day to rescue Lee and to make sure he is healed.

7. How have the group decided to rescue Lee, whose idea was this and why do they think it will work.
- Homer and Ellie planned to get one the truck from the Council depot and to burn down the streets. While Robyn goes back to the restaurant, gets Lee ready and to wait for Ellie to arrive. After this, they'll get everyone into the truck and go to hell. It was Homer, Corrie and Ellie's idea. They think this plan will work because they schemed it together making sure everyone agrees on it.

8. What do you think happened to people who ‘tried to be heroes?’
- They are probably dead or hurt.

Kiwifruit DNA

Aim: To extract DNA from a Kiwi Fruit.
Material: Ethanol, Salt, Detergent, Kiwifruit, Test tube, Mortar & Pestle
Method
1. Get a kiwi fruit and chop it in half.
2.  Squeeze the fruit in a pestle and mash it with a mortar to break up the cell walls. (Keep mushing it until all the big chunks are gone)
3. After mashing it in, add 2 squirts of detergent
4. Strain the mixture in a cloth and put it in a zip lock bag, to remove all the chunks.
5. Add two pinch of salt in
6. Then strain it again into a test tube and add ethanol in.
Results: At the end of the experiment, I was able to see the DNA of the kiwi fruit floating at the top and all the juice were left at the bottom.

Child Labour in Pakistan

In Social Studies, we have been learning about Child Labour. At the end of the topic, we were told to choose an area to research between Child Labour, Child Trafficking or Human Trafficking.

Human Reproduction

Reproduction
Reproduction is the process of producing offspring. There are two main types of reproduction:
- Asexual reproduction where only one parent produces clones of themselves.
- Sexual reproduction where two parents produce offspring which are genetically different from themselves.

Humans reproduce sexually and males and females have different reproductive organs.

Female Reproductive System

1) Ovary = One of the two organs either side of the uterus. They contain the eggs.
2) Fallopian Tube = One of two tubes that connect an ovary to the uterus.
3) Bladder = Urine is stored here before passing out the urethra.
4) Vagina = A tube that connects the cervix to the external opening called the vulva.
5) Uterus = Organ in which the baby develops if an egg is fertilised.
6) Rectum = Elastic sac that stores solid body waste before being passed as faeces.
7) Vulva = The vulva is the external part of the female genitalia.
8) Urethra = tube through which urine flows through after exiting the bladder.
9) Anus = Opening through which faeces pass.
10) Cervix = Junction between the uterus and vaginal tube.

Male Reproductive System

1) Testes = Glands in the scrotum that produce sperm and the hormone testosterone.
2) Urethra = A tube inside the penis through which urine and semen pass out of the penis.
3) Epididymis = Tubes at the back of the testes that store sperm.
4) Bladder = A flexible bag for storing urine.
5) Vas deferens = Tubes that connect the epididymis to the urethra. Often called the 'sperm duct'.
6) Anus = Opening through which faeces passes.
7) Prostate = A gland just below the bladder that produces a fluid that provides the sperm cell with nutrients.
8) Rectum = Elastic sad that stores solid body waste before being passed as faeces.
9) Penis = The external sex organ of a male. A hood of skin covers the head(glans).
10) Scrotum = A sac that holds the testes.
